Kimpton Fitzroy Hotel

Wedding

Returning to the Kimpton Fitzroy Hotel (London) was a poignant occasion for both Alex and Monica and us as a band. After postponing by a year -due to covid- their big day fell on the first covid-restriction-free Sunday. However, we put the extra year of planning to good use and prepared a bespoke evening of entertainment that reflected the couple's musical tastes, Greek heritage and after 18 months of uncertainty finally allowed them to celebrate in style.

As the video above shows we first began by transforming the ballroom at the Kimpton Fitzroy with a white 2 tier stage, white starlit dance floor (complete with white trim, very few offer this!), a huge luxury pinch-pleat backdrop, room uplighting, party/disco lighting and pin spotting for the floral centerpieces.

Prior to the arrival of their guests, Alex and Monica had a private 'room reveal' letting them finally see their vision for the space in real life, I think their expressions above say it all. We followed this with a private practice session for their first dance, read on for more details of this bespoke arrangement!

The smooth running of a wedding is important, there is nothing worse than boring your guests with delays and Monica and Alex hired just the man to ensure the day went without a hitch, toastmaster Ted Prior. We liaised with Ted throughout the function to ensure the seamless integration of both the technical and musical elements of the evening.

We commenced the evening's entertainment as the first guests began entering the ballroom for the start of the wedding breakfast. In our trademark interactive style the 3 singers, sax, and guitar performed from the dance floor entertaining as the guests found their seats ahead of the entrance of the bride and groom into the Kimpton's stunning ballroom.

The entrance of the new Mr and Mrs into the room is one of the couple's biggest moments and Sigala's aptly named 'Came Here For Love' created the perfect atmosphere to mark this key moment. After all, if you are going to make your entrance into such a stunning ballroom why not do it in style, with an 8 piece band accompanying!

Following the final speech of the wedding breakfast, it was time for the first dance and boy did Alex and Monica have a surprise for their guests. Working with a professional choreographer they created a mashup of Frank Sinatra's The Way You Look Tonight and The Darkness's I Believe In A Thing Called Love, which we performed live. The couple perfectly executed their dance routine.

Following the end of the bride and groom's opening dance, we performed the perfectly titled 'My Girl' for Monica's first dance with her father. As the photo above shows this was a special moment, full of happiness.

With a crowd keen to party until 1am, we provided our DJ to perform in between the band sets. Performing a mix of current and classic tunes the DJ set also incorporated some classic Greek songs as a tip of the hat to Monica's Greek heritage.

Throughout the evening party, we performed in our trademark interactive and engaging style. From sax solos on the dance floor to impromptu vocal contributions from the bride and groom we tailored our set and song choice to Monica and Alex's tastes. As ever the couple had control over the genres, artists, and songs we performed and worked with us to craft a setlist all of their guests would love.

After 18 months off -due to covid- it was absolutely fantastic to be back performing again and doing what we love. We couldn't have had a nicer couple or a more stunning venue.
